Thighs
Revision liposuction of the thighs is performed when a patient and his or her doctor determine that the results of the first procedure can be improved upon. The most common reasons for revising previous liposuction results are: not enough fat was removed, the results are asymmetrical, or the surgery site was not blended properly with the surrounding body.
The thighs are a common site of liposuction, including the inner and outer thighs and the area above the knee. Liposuction is performed to remove excess fat deposits that are resistant to changes in diet and exercise. Revision liposuction is performed the same way. A steel tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions. Fat is extracted through this tube. As this is done the cannula is used to sculpt the body. Because the liposuction has been done before on the same area, it is important that the surgeon performing the revision be experienced at revision liposuction.
Patients sometimes seek revision leg liposuction because the results are not the same on both thighs. It takes experience and a skilled eye to match up two body parts. An inexperienced surgeon may not have acquired the skill to achieve that symmetry. An experienced specialist can often correct these issues and give the patients the results they want.
If the amount of fat removed is not the same from both thighs, or the areas were not well blended, it may require revision leg liposuction to correct one or both thighs. The outer thighs, for example, should blend with the hips so there is a smooth body shape. Areas that have received liposuction should not be obvious.
Revision liposuction for thighs is an option as long as there is sufficient fat remaining in the area for the surgeon to sculpt. Excess fat can be removed but not put back. A qualified revision lipo surgeon can determine a patient’s candidacy for corrective surgery.
