Revision Chin Liposuction
Revision liposuction is performed to surgically sculpt specific areas of the body, including the chin, when a previous liposuction procedure did not produce the desired results. The chin is a common area for fat to accumulate and, even after overall weight loss, fat deposits in the chin and jowls can be resistant. Liposuction is one way to remove the unwanted fat deposits.
Revision chin liposuction may be desired if too little fat was removed, if the results were asymmetrical, or if the area was not properly sculpted to seamlessly blend with the neck. A revision liposuction surgeon can often correct these issues.
Revision liposuction of the chin is performed the same way as the first lipo procedure. A steel tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions. Fat is extracted through this tube. As this is done the cannula is used to reshape the area. Because liposuction is being repeated, it is important to have it performed by a revision liposuction specialist who can assess the existing work and improve upon it.
Of the many symmetrical body parts, the sides of the face are the most apparent. Therefore, a liposuction surgeon must take great care in making both sides of the jaw line look the same. The chin must also blend with the neck. An inexperienced doctor or one who does not specialize in liposuction may not achieve the symmetry and natural-looking transition between the chin and neck. In these cases, a revision lipo surgeon can often remove additional fat as needed to achieve balance.
Not all patients are good candidates for revision chin liposuction. A qualified specialist can determine a person’s suitability for revision liposuction. A prospective patient should look at a doctor’s experience, training, recommendations, and specialty when considering liposuction. Not all liposuction surgeons specialize in revision surgery and the patient should feel comfortable asking whether a surgeon has this experience before undergoing another procedure.
