Revision Back Liposuction
Revision liposuction is the correction of a previous liposuction surgery. Revision liposuction of the back is an option for many patients is the results of the first surgery were not satisfactory. This can happen if less fat was removed than the patient desired, if the results were asymmetrical on each side of the back, or if the areas where surgery was performed were not blended well with the surrounding tissue.
Back liposuction involves the removal of excess fat, usually from each side of the back where folds can occur just below the shoulder blades. As people age, fat accumulation in this area is common and can be difficult to lose through diet and exercise. Because two sides are involved in back liposuction, it is possible that an inexperienced surgeon may not achieve the same results on both sides. In this case, revision back liposuction can be performed to remove additional fat from one or both sides until the back is symmetrical.
In the case of poorly blended surgery, a revision lipo surgeon can sculpt the area to create smoother transition from the surgery sites to the rest of the back.
Revision back liposuction is possible if enough fat is left that it can be sculpted properly by a skilled surgeon. More fat can be removed if necessary to achieve symmetry or if the first surgeon removed too little. A revision specialist can determine a patient’s suitability for surgery.
Revision liposuction of the back is performed the same as the original surgery. A steel tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions to extract excess fat. However, since the surgery is being performed for a second time on the same area and by a different doctor, that doctor should be a specialist in revision liposuction. Body sculpting demands both skill and experience to achieve consistently excellent results.
